Here it is Saturday morning and a holiday weekend wherein everyone is hustling around to get to a summer’s end cookout with friends and family while others are headed off to the mall to see if there are any last-minute bargains on school items and clothing. Wow, so much to do and so little time to complete.
Me, on the other hand, am battling another day of numb tingling feet. Oh sure, I should take medication prescribed to me but, the symptoms don’t seem to subside. I just can’t seem to continue taking something that does not fix the issue. Note: I always say I have an issue because I believe that an issue can be resolved. When searching the scriptures, I began to read the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 8, verses 43 to 48. This is where my strength lies. It is written:
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
The interesting part of this passage to me are several facts. First, she had an issue. It does not say she had an illness or sickness, it says “she had an issue.” The issue is then told in two words “of blood”; then the length of time in which she had this issue. I can understand all of this because of my (neuropathy) issue.
Next, there is a brief explanation of all of whom she had gone to and spent all of her living on physicians and still they couldn’t heal her. Well again, I can understand this as well. I have spent so many dollars on medication for this issue and still I have the same issue.
Now this is where I am at,she came behind Jesus and touched the border of His garment; and immediately her issue of blood stopped. Now in the scheme of things, this time last year, I was recuperating from chemotherapy. In my many prayer times, I would press into God and have conversations that only He knew and the peace that would come over me was astonishing. I still have that blessed hope that if He healed me from so many issues before, I know He will heal me on this issue.
Thereafter, she could not hide herself from the Master, because He knew she had touched him. How many times have I touched you Lord? Too many to count. But every time I press into God, He has always heard my earnest plea.
The last part of this passage is two-fold. First He called her daughter. I am truly His daughter and the comfort in knowing that it gives me comfort. Second, He told her that her faith made her whole and to go in peace. Meaning, having the faith to believe that I may not have normality in my feet yet, but it is on the way and in the meantime, I have the comfort of knowing that He is working it out for my good, makes me smile.
Even if today is the beginning of this Labor Day Holiday, I am blessed beyond measure just to see this one day.
